A.K.A. Red Mage

I guess it's obvious by the fact that I went about modeling her design that she's to first winner of the contest. But then looking at the concept art it was an obvious choice. The amount of subtle detail really made this one a winner. Most of all it follwed a very responsible design philosphoy that really came naturally with the picture. Honestly I was flattered that such great artwork can be made in that name of my project. I almost feel I can't do it justice.

The model itself is moderately low poly, at least where it counts. I didn't quite match the sword "Moineau's" design to the number simply due to my lack of skill. (Kinda new to using Nurbs) But the best part about this project is that it excercises my modeling skills. I am proud of the level of accuracy I was able to achieve with the character to concept though. So I must be doing something right.


DFIII will feature Rikku going through multiple sphere changes. I've mentioned before that the original number or winners to this competition has changed from 3 to about 15 due to the immense response of the contest. The nature of the movie means that even though I am going through all this trouble of taking submissions and modeling each and every one of the winners, each dressphere will only appear on screen for a several seconds at best. Do expect me to post up plenty of stills just to do each design justice.


Now one thing you're all going to have to realize that this project, like any of my other projects, takes an enormous amount of time. And due to the sheer amount of content that needs to be created for this movie. I'm seriously doing 10X the amount of work than I need to be doing. So even though the contest deadline is the 20th, it'll be quite a while before DFIII is out. I do expect everyone who hasn't/won't read this to be banging on my door in the coming months asking me "wtf?"

BTW this is certainly NOT how I plan on announcing the winners. I just loved the design and the model so much that I had to put it out there. Making these are a whole lotta fun, I can't wait to actually see them moving!
